Ancient China — The Most Systematic Tradition

An Integrated Cosmological Framework

Chinese divination is arguably the most systematic and philosophically sophisticated tradition in the world. The I Ching (Book of Changes), compiled over centuries from the Shang Dynasty onward, is both a divination manual and a profound philosophical text. Oracle bone divination (pyromancy), where questions were inscribed on turtle shells or ox bones and heated until they cracked, produced the earliest Chinese writing.

Yin-Yang, the Five Elements, and the Hexagrams

The Chinese cosmological framework of yin-yang, the five elements (wu xing), the ten Heavenly Stems and twelve Earthly Branches, and the 64 hexagrams forms an integrated system that connects astronomy, medicine, governance, architecture (feng shui), and personal destiny (BaZi/Saju).
