The Six Limbs of the Vedas
Indian divination traditions are embedded within the broader framework of Vedic and Hindu philosophy. It uses 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) and 9 grahas (planets) in a sidereal system more detailed than Western astrology in its predictive techniques.

The concept of karma, the cycle of birth and death (samsara), and the possibility of liberation (moksha) provide the philosophical context for all Indian divinatory practices. The seven-chakra system maps subtle energy centres in the body. Mantra (sacred sound) and the concept of Nada Brahma (the universe is sound) connect Indian divination to the frequencies and sound-healing traditions.
