Number Mysticism Across Cultures
Numerology, the study of the mystical significance of numbers, has roots in virtually every ancient civilisation. The Western tradition traces to Pythagoras, but number mysticism is equally deep in Chinese, Indian, Hebrew, and Islamic traditions.
The Pythagorean System
The Pythagorean system assigns each letter a number from 1 to 9 and reduces names and dates to their root number. The life path number, calculated from the birth date, is the most familiar modern application. The Chaldean system, developed in ancient Babylon, uses a different letter-to-number mapping. The Numerology tool on SpiritWave Labs works in the Pythagorean tradition.
